My Username is AppalledPython, as you already know.
I am an internet user, and white boy, and like you I am frustrated with the current state of social media and the internet at large. We can’t go back, though, so lets look forward to the future we can create together.
I work in IT, and I can tell you that however much you hate Microsoft, it isn’t enough. I really hate Microsoft.
But I would rather analyze the things I like. I like science fiction books, comics, turn-based RPGs, cowboy movies, and Mexican food. I’ve always wanted to write a story, and so far I haven’t given up on that. I like talking to people about why we like certain things. I hope to better articulate what I see in books, comics, and movies, so that I can write a story I’ll be satisfied with. Currently I would be satisfied with a finished story, so my bar is realistically low.
Some of my favorite books are: Gateway by Frederik Pohl (sci-fi), The Gods Themselves by Asimov, which I wrote a review for, and the Town Tamers by J.T. Edson (western).
As far as comics, I am a big Jean “Moebius” Giraud and Jack Kirby fan (Fantastic Four rocks!). As far as living artists, Nick Dragotta and Scott Snyder’s work on Absolute Batman has been stunning. If I had to pick a single favorite superhero, it would be the Silver Surfer.
Regarding movies, an underrated western I love is My Name Is Nobody (1973). Obviously The Good, The Bad, and The Ugly and Once Upon a Time in the West are genre defining classics, and if you don’t watch westerns, those are your two reasons to start. They’re just good movies, plain and simple. Other than westerns, I love the Back to the Future trilogy and most films by Wes Anderson and Quentin Tarantino.
On turn-based RPGs, I like games that force you to make interesting decisions. I love Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door, but I wish it was more difficult, you could make interesting builds or be forced to make complex decisions, but the game is too easy and doesn’t require that. I also love Yakuza: Like a Dragon, the Persona games (I’m a casual, only played 3,4,5, sue me), the Mario & Luigi games (GBA and DS ones, haven’t played after that, though I’ve heard promising things about Dream Team), and Final Fantasy 6. The OG Dragon Quest is also a fun boredom buster, play it at work if you can. I still need to play Chrono Trigger, FF7 and Bravely Default, but I’m a busy guy. I also enjoyed Earthbound, but I have complicated feelings with that game.
I mentioned Mexican food. Give me a cheese-sauce drenched beef chimichanga, and I’ll be your best friend. (“Oooo but a chimichanga is Tex-Mex, not actually Mexican!” “Shut up! Being a smart-ass is never attractive! I’m an American and I don’t want to hear your crap!”)
I also like to drink beer and try find peace. Maybe one day I’ll find a girl. Inceldom is a self-inflicted disease, and I should improve myself. Trying to keep up with a website is a way, I hope, to improve my discipline. Chicks LOVE discipline, I’m sure.
I see some really impressive websites across neocities and the nekoweb, I don’t think my site will be close to that, but everyone who has an impressive site, keep up the work!
Anyway, I
appreciate you reading my site. Please check out my book review.
Although currently our relationship is very one-way, I still
appreciate the bond we’ve formed. Maybe you’ll remember me after
closing my page. Just remember, for every website, there’s a nerd
hardworking webmaster on the other side!
